The Guide

The 4C Guide

Diamonds are read through four criteria established in the mid-twentieth century: Cut, Colour, Clarity and Carat. Together they describe a stone\u2019s physical truth. At Aneikaa we use them as a starting point, never as a full portrait \u2014 the life of a jewel is always bigger than its paperwork.

The 1st C

Cut

Of the four criteria, cut is the only one shaped entirely by human hands. It is the geometry that decides whether a stone merely holds light or gives it back to you. A well-cut diamond returns every ray as if it owed you something.

The 2nd C

Colour

The absence of colour is what the grading scale measures, but the presence of character is what you notice when you wear the stone. Aneikaa works across the D to G range so each diamond stays close to the quiet end of the spectrum.

The 3rd C

Clarity

A diamond’s clarity is a portrait of the environment in which it grew. Lab-grown stones, like mined stones, can carry the smallest traces of their making — we choose only those where those traces are invisible to the unaided eye.

The 4th C

Carat

Carat measures weight, not value. Two stones of identical carat can feel entirely different in hand depending on cut and proportion. We always explain both numbers when you speak with a specialist, so you know exactly what you are wearing.

Still have questions?

Speak with an Aneikaa specialist in a boutique or over a private video appointment. We will walk you through any stone you are considering and explain exactly what the numbers describe.
